Meet Brandon Justice
What is your name, how old are you, and where are you from?
My name is Brandon Justice. I am 25 years old and I’m from Greenville, South Carolina.
What Brought Him to Jiu-Jitsu
What brought you to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Real American Grappling?
I wanted to find a new hobby. I had heard a lot of great things about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu online and through some friends, so I wanted to give it a shot and see what it was all about. I ended up at Real American Grappling after doing some research online and seeing great reviews for the gym and Professor Allen.
Athletic Background
What sports did you grow up playing?
I played baseball in high school and college.
Life Outside the Mats
What do you enjoy doing outside of Jiu-Jitsu?
I enjoy lifting weights, reading, cooking, and hanging out at local breweries.
Quick Questions
If you could be one animal, what would it be?
Probably a cheetah. It would be fun to run as fast as they do.
What is your favorite food?
I love any type of barbecue.
Motivation and Growth
Where do you get inspiration and motivation for Jiu-Jitsu?
I think my biggest inspiration is seeing other people have success. The skill level of the higher belts is where I want to be someday, so seeing their hard work and how they train motivates me to do the same.
Milestones So Far
What is your proudest moment in Jiu-Jitsu so far?
I’m still relatively new, but receiving my first stripe on my white belt stands out. I was very lost when I first started, so earning that stripe gave me confidence that I belonged.
One Word to Describe Training
In one word, how would you describe training at Real American Grappling?
Welcoming.
What He Enjoys Most
What is the one thing you like most about Jiu-Jitsu?
I enjoy the mix of competition and self-defense, but what stands out most is how easy it is to set goals. Whether it’s submitting someone, surviving a round, or working toward the next belt, there’s always something to work toward and it all comes down to showing up and putting in the work.
Advice for Beginners
What advice would you give to someone just starting Jiu-Jitsu?
Don’t compare yourself to other people in the gym. Compare yourself to who you were yesterday. When you first start, everyone seems better than you. That can be frustrating. Once I focused on my own progress instead of comparing myself to others, I started improving much faster.
